“A bridge between Italy and central-eastern Europe”
In 2007 Fulvio and Fabio Ferrarini, father and son, decided to create a cultural website in order to
connect Milan to central-eastern Europe. They collected Fabio’s travel experiences and a lot of suggestions
coming from their friends who shared the same love and passion for these wonderful places.
Their project grew up and developed also thanks to the collaboration with an on-line cultural magazine “Puntoelinea”
(www.puntoelineamagazine.it) and an art gallery “Galleria d’Arte Eustachi”, both located in Milan.
Together they organized local and national cultural events based on historical and artistical topics (they joined three
editions of the so-called “Giornata del Contemporaneo” created by “AMACI”).
Among the most important events, they created a “bridge” between Milan and Mitteleurope (”Milano e la
Mitteleuropa. Connessione remota”) which concerns the history of Milan during Absburgic period until the
so-called “Risorgimento”, “Natale sotti i lampioni” which is a Christmas event dedicated to the history of
Munich, Milan and Berlin in 1930 and finally a good project in order to publish a book: “Metropolitanìa” written
by Fabio Ferrarini and Daniele Leone.
The positive result of this project let us to obtain the publication of “Metropolitanìa” thanks to our publisher “Runde
Taarn Edizioni” and “Metropolitanìa” joined the so-called “Fiera del Libro di Torino”, the most important Italian
cultural event dedicated to literature and divulgation.
In the following years, Fabio led on his work in order to keep in contact Milan and Berlin, so at the beginning of
2011, he improved his knowledge about air-raid protection in the metropolitan areas of Milan and Berlin: this
particular matter became the topic of his graduation thesis (Master degree in Contemporary history).
Now it’s time to change our “skin”: our website transforms itself becoming a specialized website of contemporary
history, which is also able to suggest historical trips concerning Milan, Berlin, Trieste and many more places
all over central-eastern Europe.
“Il Caffè orientale” promotes and organises cultural events in order to improve and spread the knowledge about
central-eastern Europe. Our activity wants to enlarge the communication among persons, organisations and institutions,
in Italy and all over the world in order to share informations and experiences. We would like to create a common platform of
knowlwdge about this large geographical area. “Il Caffè Orientale”, in fact, is a “bridge” which connects Italy to every corner
of the planet so that everyone (student, traveller, researcher and so on) could find good means of divulgation, education and
cultural development.
